[Spotter's sandpiper - 1 only]
willow and rock ptarmigan, cliff and
Tree swallows, tree sparrows, chickadee
(grey-capped?), 2 possible Osprey nests
(1 with ca. 1 lb. long fish below).
Lynx tracks very abundant; also
rabbit (sometimes attacks to rabbit),
fox, and fresh moose tracks.
Vegetation - c/o Harwood grove
around 3 springs, alternating with and
surrounded by dense willow thickets
5-7 ft. high.
In flying around area saw
abundant ptarmigan plus lesser
Canadian Geese, Whistling Swans,
and a few Sandhill Cranes.

Barrow, Alaska
Took parents out to see the tundra.
Found it virtually unchanged in my absence -
no noticeable new belt. Went out to Beach
Ridge to observe jaegers and owls.
Pair of owls is back ca. 200 m E of
micro-met. One gave one dracula
display for the tourists, w/ our lemming.
Jaegers mostly sitting quietly; one
territorial dispute. A few lemmings
were seen, but not anywhere near
the number seen when ground first
became exposed, before arrival of
