Maelea 1965 Journal Of lemming abundance, tried walking To new area, stopping, and counting until lemming was seen. Averages 5 to 10 counts. Snowy owl now has 6 eggs. Saw short-eared owl; Fires longspurs. Longspurs mostly still in flocks. Gulls abundant and are hunting lemmings. Watched Red fox in drum area on way in. Believe it is denning in or under one of AACS huts. 24 May Barrow, Alaska Saw 2 redpolls by animal house - first I've seen at Barrow. 26 May Barrow, Alaska Out to Beach Ridge and Pitelka's Plot. Jaegers have returned in good numbers; mostly sitting quietly or flying over tundra. No interaction with owls or other jaegers. Short-eared owl still on Beach Ridge. Nesting owls now have 7 eggs.
