MacLean 1965 Journal egg-laying period so drove on. Observed Copulation in this and another pair of owls. Searches Beach Ridge, CREEL areas, then went home. 17 May Barrow, Alaska Two whales caught this morning down by village, so leaves out after work. Turns out to be a crew's little size of Vincent Nageaks. Vincent said that they lacked people-power; chases several whales during the run but couldn't catch up with any. Saw first glorious gull of year by one of buttlees whales. Numerous flocks of eires. Vincent shot a ot walras few days before. Stays until 5:00 A.M.- so whales, so walras in to work. 23 May Barrow, Alaska The past week has brought the first real melt. Camp is awash, and there is a moat around +5. The tundra is beginning to emerge from the snow cover. Went our to Beach Ridge - only place with any appreciable extent of exposed tundra. Lemming sign - cut vegetation and tracks on the snow - extremely abundant. As inax
