Maclean 1965 Journal enough. Bars! Saw other whales 200 to 400 m away, but could not pursue. Finally left one walrus alone when ice jammed solidly. May 9 Barrow, Alaska First semblance of snow bunting song heard in camp - or on top of telephone pole by T-5. Phrases short - c.a. 5 sec - but who are we to be particular?! 12 May Barrow, Alaska Pat Donnelly reported seeing block of ca. 75 Eiders circle over Honeybucker Lagoon. 13 May Barrow, Alaska Flew to Squirrel Camp on Kukpuk, River, 14 mi. from Cape Thompson, with Shepard. Saw three groups of ca. 10 caribou each near Wainwright; about 8 caribou just North of Squirrel Camp. Wounded eider near Wainwright. 2 ravens at Point Bay. Not much else alive. Melt-off was essentially zero to Beaufort Hills, not much more than 5% around squirrel camp, landed on frozen lake after a day careful look. Off bases
