Procedure for salinity determinator
Prepare 1 M. AgNO3
127.50 g / 1 L distilled H2O.
store in light proof bottle.
shake before using.
Titrate standard sea water:
5 ml. std. into 125 ml Erlenmeyer flask.
add ca. 20 ml dist. H2O.
add 3 drops K2CrO4 soln.
titrate w/ AgNO3 soln. until
inevitable rust color appears.
Titrate samples similarly.
Calculation:
If more than one trial / sample,
average values.
X = S·kx
ks
chlorinity = (chlorinity of standard) (ml AgNO3 X)
(ml AgNO3 used in Std.)
Salinity = 0.030 + 1.8050 Cl
Standard (Denmark) Sea Water:
Chlorinity = 19.373 %o
