MacLean 1964 Journal lemmings, including 7 from area of ca. 40 ft. radius. Could have had more. The entire area is crossed and recrossed by runways and burrows. With this many animals going under the snow, could be a high next summer. Saw flocks of red-backed sandpipers, plus group of 4 semi-pale. 2 imm. jaegers in Voth area - voice was surprising ... almost plover-like. Also checked Beach Ridge - Plot area - not too much. 1 flock of longspurs- 1 of snow buntings, a few owls. Same stay across Woldslag Slough. Finally driven in by darkness. In our absence tundra has turned color - now a golden brown. It is still (low, at least) surprisingly warm - ca. 45° today. 26 August Barrow, Alaska Decided to check low polygon areas as possible flocking sights.
