Macbean 1964 Journal bad shot, then leases for bize cliffs. this time took telephoto lens, and used Rich's camera. First day it hasn't been sunny! When birds were frightened off the cliff, a murre egg fell and broke. Found embryo ca. 30mm - barely recognizable. Makes me wonder about synchrony - maybe a resp. of murre is dates than other (i.e. all chicks collects are one sp.), or periphery of colony (where this egg came from) is later than center, or breeding is asynchronous. Would be interesting to know. Both spp. of murres were on this ledge, so don't know which this is. Watched photographers, and took another puffin. Rich took 2 tufted puffins. Interesting thought - no puffin chicks on the grounds. But then puffins are cavity nesters. Spent evening putting up remainder of phormigans and reading. Cape Thompson, Alaska The time has come to pack up and prepare to leave, although there's no telling when the plane will come. Packers, separates, and cleaners all. No more birds
