Maclean 1964 Journal to see if maybe tuftless were more abundant on other cliffs. Not so, although found one cliff with almost exclusively loons. Returns to main (or closest) cliff and watches awhile. Discovered Common and thick-billed murres intermixes completely on entire cliff - often touching each other on narrow ledges. Seems strange. Would estimate c.a. 3 common per 2 thick-bills. Could see no evidence that birds know the difference. Collected loons, puffin and 3 thick-billed murres, then leaves base. That hill gets longer and steeper each day! Cleans up birds, then went out with Laughingwell to get weasel. Returned and pass a bit before passing out. 15 August Cape Thompson, Alaska Wind still blowing.... Harper, if any thing, that, and lack of transportation other than feet, causes us to sit in and finish backlog of specimens. Marina - out for more, Clarence got our message through to Barrow this A.M. - gets us out of here. Doubt if it'll do much good, but now we're obligated to stay fairly near to camp....... unless a real good trip comes up!
