Canyon. Saw snow-bunting, several sparrows, wheatears along sides of canyon. Much equipped sign. Several possible blue-throats seen, but never got close enough to shoot.
Canyon continues ca. 1/2 mi., and ends in 50 ft. long snow pack at edge of beach. From here, walked over to bird cliffs. Fantastic. Murrees along every inch of every ledge large enough to stand on; from 10 to 300 ft. above ground. Hard to estimate numbers, but, maybe, 50,000 murrees, 150 loons puffins, 1 tufted puffin seen in a coup. Most surprising of all...... murrees are just hatching. Many are on eggs, and the ground below the cliffs is littered with chicks that have fallen off. Several of these were still alive. Collected a few of the freshest; then just sat and watched birds take off and land. Often two birds would, in a territorial dispute, push each other off the ledge. This usually precipitated a real battle. As I came up 2 birds were going at it on the beach, and continues in the water. Really cute
