July 6 continued
doves, magpies, robins, linnets and
blackbird along the road home
to camp.
The day was very windy and
it was difficult to prepare skins.
There was much dust and sand in the
air. I set no traps.
July 7 We packed camps went into Yeumont
and then on to the Indian Agency
near Schurz. The country is
very desolate except for
a little irrigation along the
Walker River. There is more
sand here in this part of the
Valley than in Mason Valley. From
Schurz we went south to a location
3 mi., S. Schurz, 4100 ft., Mineral Co., Nevada
we camped in a grove of cottonwoods
near the Walker river. It was
quite warm but not excessively so
in the shade. I set out forty two
traps in nearly a straight line
east of camp. I followed the line
back and one trap I found a
Ammospermophilus leucurus.
July 8
Gathered the catch from the trap lines.
Most of the catch was kangaroo rats.
