Spilogale gracilis
Wilson Ranch, North of Wilson Canyon, Hooft, Lyon Co., Nevada.
December 28, 1939.
Going to the Wilson Ranch
one of the hired men gave me
a dead skunk & said another
spotted " was in the
cement & rock house which
was used for food supplies etc.
On entering the building I was
told to be careful not to
let the animal bite me
or I would get "hydrophobia".
The skunk was not
in sight so I opened
a cabinet & it was sitting
on the 2nd shelf. It stayed
watched me for a few
seconds & then with
the activity of a cat it
jumped to the floor &
ran under the cabinet.
I took a sack & tried
to place it over the animal
but it was too active
for me to catch. I
then took a short piece
of 4 inch pipe & ran
the spotted skunk
