Alcorn 1939. Corynorhinus rafenesque 2 mi. E 2 mi. N Yerington, 4700ft, Lyon Co., Nevada Dec. 27, 1939. In a 26 ft. tunnel made by miners a Corynorhinus was found hanging from the ceiling. The temperature was 50°, the bat was 18 ft. from mouth of tunnel; tragus straight out; ears coiled under wings, which covered the under surface of the bat. A gasoline lantern was placed near the bat and the heat from the lantern apparently caused the animal to move its wings & feet as though it was uncomfortable. All its movements were slow. No other bats were found in this short tunnel & this bat hanging into the air would have gotten cold enough to possibly freeze in colder weather, which is sometimes the below zero in this locality.
