J.R. Alcorn Corynorhinus rafinesquie 10 mi. SE Fallon, 3900 ft., Churchill Co., Nevada. Aug. 15 1938 In a cave in the foothills about 50 of these big eared bats were seen hanging from the ceiling. Three or four were captured for specimens. JRH Nos 178a, 179a. These bats have been found in this same cave for the past two years. It is interesting to note that they were always found in the far end of the cave where it is very dark as the cave makes a sharp right angle turn to the left which shuts out all light. 1 mi. S.W. Pyramid Lake, 3950 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. April 21 1939 As I was standing under a tree today mid P.M. a large bat (JRH 702 71) was seen flying just above the sagebrush. I shot it. Where it came from I do not know. Possibly it flew from a tree or from a pile of cliffs or rocks over by, " mile to the north. 10 mi. SE Fallon, 3900 ft., Churchill Co., Nevada. Dec. 24, 1939 This same cave as visited on Aug. 15, 1938 was [illegible] inspected today for bats. Temperature at 70° F. inside cave. Possibly this is to warm for bats to hibernate.
