J.R. Alcorn 1939. Ovis 4 Aug.21 Troy Cr.,5400 ft, Nye Co., Nevada. We came to this area on the suggestion of a Mr. Calloway who lives near Nyala. Mr. Calloway had a mt. sheep head mounted in his house that he killed about 2 to 4 miles East of his ranch during the past five years. This mounted head was very dark in color except the nose which was much lighter. The horns were massive. It looked to me like typical Ovis canadensis and not like Ovis nelsoni from the south. At Nyala in one ranch house we saw one Mt. Sheep mounted that had been killed in the vicinity and it was pale in color & looked like Ovis nelsoni from the south. Nyala Calloway ranch are not more than 20 miles apart. We hunted the Troy Crb vicinity up to the headwaters then on up to the main divide but no mt. sheep or signs were seen. We did not stay long enough to hunt it out.
