Aug. 13. Timber line on many occasions but he also doubts if Kauffman saw any Mt. Sheep. Mr Taylor said he had not seen a sheep in this vicinity since 1917 which is about 22 years ago. Dr Taylor lives near Baker, Nev. and has known Kauffman for some time.
Aug. 17. Wm Forghurst and I have hunted over a large part of the territory around Treasury Lake and we have hunted south from Wheeler Peak for 6 or 8 miles. We followed the main divide of the Snake range as we hunted south. No sign of Mt. Sheep was seen. We hunted north of Wheeler Peak, for about 2 to 4 miles as well as up on Wheeler Mt. itself. I picked up one Mt. Sheep (Ram) skull about 5 mi. S. Wheeler peak, and one Mt. Sheep (Ewe) skull 1 or 2 mi. S. Wheeler peak and one Mt Sheep (Ram) skull (mostly horns) on the NW slope of Wheeler Peak. Yesterday Mr. Briggs the Forest supervisor for Eastern Nevada.
