J.R. Alcorn 1939. Ovis Aug. 13. Baxter Cr., 11,100 ft., White Pine Co., Nevada. Wm Longhurst and I arrived at this location (via horses) today and set up a camp in an old prospector's Cabin. Ralph Kauffman of Baker, Nev. and several of his associates say that Mt. Sheep are in this vicinity and Ralph K. says he shot at one near here this spring. He said it was too far to tell whether it had horns. These people give one the impression that a person should be able to kill a Mt. Sheep with little difficulty and thus know where the sheep range but were unable to go with us to hunt for them. I am inclined to dis believe they know much about it and doubt if Kauffman ever shot at a Mt. Sheep. I think they are sorta spreading it. Dr. Mr. Don Taylor (an old Lion Hunter) told me he had hunted Mt. Lion in this vicinity for several years and has been above
