Antilocapra americana
13 mi. N and 6 mi. W Deephole, 6000 ft., Washoe Co., Nevada.
Aug. 30 minutes then started walking out into the valley again.
After another attempt to attract the antelope closer by "the handkerchief method" I sat up high enough so that my head and shoulders protruded above the rock and issued a short whistle. The antelope stopped took a good look at me then walked several feet and broke into a trot then into a high rate of speed as I sat on the rock. After running for 1/4 mile it stopped to look about again and then disappeared into the valley. We were not over 100 yds. from the animal while it was drinking and we were located on a small hill (about 20 ft. high) that was to the east of the place where the antelope was drinking. His horns were visible but it was not a large ♂.
