J.R.Alcorn 1940 Antilocapra W Slope Granite Range, 6000 ft., 13 mi. N and 6 mi. W Deephole, washoe Co., Nevada. August 30, 1940 This morning I got up early, circled the floor of the valley looking for Antelope and as I was returning to the small spring I saw what appeared to be Antelope coming down the gentle WNW sloping hill. I jumped into a deep wash and was making my way up hill when I met my father who had just been over on the ridge to the N. We looked about for the Antelope and saw them, to my surprise, below us. There was five in this one bunch and the sun was shining on them as they stood broad side. I slipped back into the wash and ran down hill to - within 350 yds. of the animals and they were still standing broad side in the same place. My automobile was near the spring and these antelope were apparently standing in this place looking at the car. They stood out conspicuously from where we were. To see us they had to look directly toward the sun.
