Andatra z. mergans 6 mi N Stillwater, 3900 ft, Churchill Co., Nevada. August 25, 1940 Today, in company with [illegible] J. Mills, we were riding in a small motor boat and out in a lake we observed a muskrat. The nearest land was several hundred feet but tules were growing all around." I shot at the animal and wounded it but it "came to life" and escaped into the tules before one could get it. He observed the animal several times swimming from out in the lake into the tules before I shot. It was not a cloudy a clear day, with some wind. Observed animal at 3:30 PM.
