Microtus montanus.
1/2 mi. SW Mt Shasta City, 3400 ft., Siskiyou Co., California.
May 7, 1940.
In the same location, where [illegible] were taken, 10 Microtus were caught in traps set in a wet grassy NE facing meadow, in the last 24 hours. Several (2) were taken in the middle of the day, others (4) were taken in the evening (5) between 6:00 and 9:00 PM. 4 were caught between 9:00 PM last night and 5:00 AM this morning. Traps were placed in runways and baited with "chewed" rolled oats. These mice were caught as they were apparently attempting to eat the bait. A small stream of water runs in a southerly direction along the base of the short slope of this meadow.
