J.R. Alcorn 1939 Microtus montanus (3) In Community Pasture, 7 mi. SE Fallon, Churchill Co., Nevada. Nov. 11. I noted on several occasions Green leaves were found in the burrows & along several runways the clover leaves & tender shoots had been eaten off. On two occasions it was noted where the mice had eaten freely of Sour Dock roots that were exposed from 1 to 3 inches below the surface by these mice burrowing activities. Nov. 12. I picked up the 75 mouse traps this morning and caught 9 Microtus montanus 3 Reithrodontomys I was surprised that I did not catch more meadow mice. The traps were baited with chewed Rolled Oats & traps placed across way of the runways. As mice were caught accross the end of the trap instead of pointing into the trap I gather that these mice have no special taste for the oats. I also noted where these mice had partly covered several traps with dirt by their tunneling activities but did not touch the bait.
