Alcorn 1939 Dipodomys merriami. On pole line road NE Hagent Soda Lake vicinity, Churchill Co., Nevada. Dec. 26, 1939. Dec. 26, 1939. Where kangaroo rats of 'all kinds' usually inhabit these areas no tracks are to be seen in the two or three inches of snow. Dec. 27, 1939. Although only 2 inches of snow on the level no tracks of kangaroo rats are to be seen. Dec. 28, 1939. Snow partially melted, only about 1 or 1 1/2 inch on the level but I have not seen any rat tracks. Dec. 29, 1939. The snow is melted in scattered spots and a few kangaroo rat tracks are to be seen in these areas. No further observations, but from above notes kangaroo rats 'hole up' for several days after snow storm.
