(7b) Alcorn 1939. Dipodomys merriami merriami. 2 mi. NW Soda Lake, 4000 ft, Churchill Co., Nevada. March 29. Yesterday a crew of men poisoning ground squirrels on this sandy desert land close to cultivated fields killed many kangaroo rats and I picked up the following of this species on a 100 acre tract of land. Mar. 29. A total of 38 ?'s and 26 ?'s were found. All ?'s were examined for embryos with following results. 8 ?'s were being suckled indicating young recently born. 7 ?'s had normal uterus horns + were not suckling young. 3 ?'s had enlarged uterus horns indicating the ?'s were ready for implantation or it had taken place. 6 ?'s had 3 embryos each 2 ?'s had 4 embryos each Mar. 30. 1/2 mi. NW Soda Lake, 4000 ft, Churchill Co., Nevada. after poisoning on desert land 10 rats picked up as follows 7 ?'s 3 ?'s. All three ?'s were being suckled + their mammae contained fluid. April 19. 1 mi. N Soda Lake, 4000 ft, Churchill Co., Nevada. 18 rats picked up in desert land (poisoned) as follows 12 ?'s 6 ?'s. 3 ?'s normal uterus horns, no embryos - no young. 2 ?'s being suckled. Mammae contained fluid. 1 ? had 3 embryos/2 developed
