I counted the kernels from the two outside pouches of one of these and found 29 kernels in the left pouch and 24 kernels in the right pouch total 53 kernels of strychnine coated rolled oats in the pouches of one Dipodomys merriami. This aroused my curiosity as to the effect of this much poison in the stomach of one coyote. The coyote tracks are numerous in favorable localities and in several places I followed these tracks across the sand and could plainly see where the coyotes were apparently picking up the dead kangaroo rats.
