J.R. AICORN 1938 Thomomys bottae canus (14) Feb. 9 1938 4 mi E Fallon, 1,000 ft. Churchill County, Nevada. long were found in the nest along with one piece of poisoned carrot. The end of the carrot had been eaten away. The nest was 1 1/2 feet under ground and was in a cavity in the dirt 10 inches in diameter. Two feet from the nest was a cavity five inches in diameter filled with gopher "droppings" or stools, and seven pieces of alfalfa roots about 1/4 by 1 1/4 inch long with all the bark eaten off. This rubbish or waste had been tightly packed into this cavity. Four feet from the nest another cavity of the same size was found with 87 pieces of alfalfa roots the same as in the cavity two feet from the nest. Five feet from the nest was another cavity with 40 pieces of alfalfa roots with bark peeled off. All the three above cavities were apparently garbage rooms for the gopher and all were tightly packed with droppings plus what roots were mentioned. Thirty feet from the nest a food storage chamber was found which contained 876 pieces of alfalfa roots. 100 feet from the nest another food storage chamber was found containing 1561 pieces of alfalfa roots. 115 feet from the nest a third storage chamber was
