Total Tail H.Foot Sex Ovaries. 9 7/16 2 1/16 1 1/16 ♀ No embryos found. 8 15/16 2 3/16 1 7/16 ♀ No embryos found. 8 13/16 2 9/16 1 1/16 ♀ No embryos found. 8 9/16 2 9/16 1 3/16 ♀ No embryo found. Feb. 9 1939 10 3 1 7/16 ♂ 9 1/16 2 1/16 1 5/16 ♂ 9 7/16 2 1/16 1 1/16 ♀ No embryos found. Above nineteen gophers were caught on a three acre field. It is important to note the scarcity of males found in this field. The females had no embryos in them, which indicates the males must be present in considerable numbers to produce a maximum of young. In other words if the males are continually after the females the weaker sex gives in. Feb. 9 1938 On February 9, 1938, I placed two or three poisoned (Strychnine alkaloid) Carrot baits 2 in. long by ½ in. square into a gopher tunnel in different places. On Feb. 10, 1938, I dug this tunnel system out and found the following: At no place did this tunnel go more than one and one-half (1½) feet deep. The nest, made of dry cut pieces of grass, was found. About four or five pieces of alfalfa roots 1½ inches
