Alcorn 1938 Thomomys bottae canus Feb. 1, 1938 1 mi SE Fernley, Lyon County, Nevada On Feb. 1, 1938 I caught 13 gophers on a 5 acre alfalfa field one mile south east of Fernley, Nevada There were numerous mounds on this field and I believed I caught about 40% of all the gophers on this field. Twenty percent of the females taken were pregnant. The soil in this section of the country (Fernley) is a coarse, rocky soil in most places. Small rocks are to be found in any of the soil. This differs considerably from the sandy and adobe soil of Fallon, Nevada district.
