Alcorn 1939 Sorex vagrans small brown shrew Aug.10. Kingston Canyon, 7000 ft., Lander Co., Nevada. One & shrew was caught by tail in a trap set among the grass within a foot of the water. Several other traps in the vicinity were sprung and on them droppings that appeared to be shrew feces were found. Another trap set on wet soil under an over hanging bank contained one of these small shrews. As I reached for the trap the shrew freed itself and disappeared among the grass. Apparently it was caught by the end of the tail. The specimen mentioned above is no. 334 b. J.R.A. Baker Creek, 11,100 ft., White Pine Co., Nevada. Aug.15 no J.R.A. 351 and no J.R.A. 352. Aug.16 These two small brown shrews were caught in traps (mouse) set within 1 foot of the waters edge baited with rolled oats that I had chewed so they would stick to the treadle of the trap. Many traps were sprung apparently by these small shrews. Their droppings could be seen on sprung traps and I believe these small shrews are numerous along this stream.
