Alcorn 1937 1938 Thommys botlae canus 8 Dec. 1 1937 5 mi. S Fallon, 4000 ft., Churchill County, Nevada some 30 feet into the nest. I have ran other experiments with other smaller lengths of bait and have found that the gophers usually prefer to take the bait to the nest. and apparently eat them there. We are now using sweet potatoes cut 2 inches long and 1/2 inch square, put them in a dishpan and sprinkle 1/4 ounce of strychnine Alkaloid over one gallon of cut sweet potatoes and are getting very good results.
