Sorex parustris

Aug. 27,
1938
No. J.R. 186a. One ♀ shrew was caught in a mouse trap baited with a raisen. The trap was set along a small stream and although other traps were set in the vicinity this was the only shrew of this kind caught here.
Kingston Creek, 7000 ft., Lander Co., Nevada.
May 12,
1939.
No. J.R. 283 ♀. As my wife was fishing in the stream, in a pool of clear, motionless water a fish appeared to be swimming along the banks. Back and forth it went in 2 foot circles as though feeding on something. Examining closer she thought it was a shrew so she came to tell me. I picked up the gun (with shot) and going within 10 feet of the water I was unable to determin what or why the shrew was so active. It was swimming rapidly back & forth along the bank and stirring up the water considerably. I took a shot at it and examination revealed that it was a ♀ with mammal developed. She must have had some very young ones somewhere.
