J.R. Alcorn 1936 1937 Citellus townsendi mollis May 19 1936 4 to 8 mi. W Fallon, 4000 ft., Churchill County, Nevada several ground squirrels that fell near me. A crow then came to the fight and took several feathers out of the Vulture. The Vulture did not attempt to fight back, but tried to get away. The Piute Squirrels are being killed by the ranchers in this district during irrigation. These squirrels are left flying out in the alfalfa fields. The Turkey Vultures are eating these squirrels and are having considerable trouble as they eat too many and the blackbirds and kingbirds attack the Vulture in the air and Mr. Buzzard vomits to enlighten his load and fly better. July 1936 The Piute Ground Squirrels have hibernated by the tousands. There are a few left where they were the thickest this spring. July 8 1936 There are very few Piute Ground Squirrels left that haven't hibernated at this date. Those left are very fat. Feb. 21 1937 The Piute Ground Squirrels appeared above ground today for the first time today this year. March 31 1937 4 mi. W Fallon, 4000 ft., Churchill County, Nevada Out of five Piute Ground Squirrels cut open today after poisoning by C.C.C. crew: 1 had 10 embryo's developed 1 had 8 embryo 's developed 1 had 11 embryo 's developed 1 had 11 embryo 's developed 1 had 10 embryo 's developed
