J.R. Alcorn 1938 Marmota 150 mi. S W Eastgate, 4700 ft., Churchill Co., Nevada. (June 4) (no 16 ba JRA.) I found this specimen lying in the road where an automobile had apparently run over it. A man at Eastgate ranch said these animals were numerous along the border of the alfalfa field just above the ranch buildings. June 4 1938 3 mi. S Mt. Rose, 8500 ft., Washoe Co., Nevada. Aug 28 1938 19/ a Jkt. A number of trays were set among the rocks and this animal was caught. Others were seen. One other juvenile 1/2 grown was captured and taken home and placed in a barrel. On lifting the lid of the barrel it would click or chatter its teeth in an attempt to frighten its disturber. A short shrill whistle was often given when the animal was frightened. It ate carrots, apples, potatoes and alfalfa.
