J.R. Alcorn 1939 Scapanus latimanus 5 mi. S & 3¼ mi. E Minden, 4900 ft., Douglas Co., Nevada. On East for of the carson river, June 28 no. 3 314 Hill. I caught this male among the Cottonwood trees near the river. The male runs are numerous along the river at this point. Some runs are in sand, gravel & then into rose bush thickets. ½ mi. S Pyramid lake, 3950 ft., Washoe Co., Nevada. Aug 30 Today I looked for mole runs 31, 1939 where I had been thme in April of this year. No runs were found in the sagebrush or dry part of the meadow but in the very moist part of the meadow mole mounds were seen. I dug into these mounds & found the runways were constructed by the moles were about 2 inches or 3 inches under the surface of the soil. By taking the soil into the hand & squeezing hard, water would drip out. The soil is very clayish in texture & the earth worms are sprehemly abundant in it.
