62 Western Red-tail. 337/4 Buteo borealis calvus. 1892. Nov. 10 George shot one in the blue gums and another was seen. Long, 19, tpt 50, wng. 16, thg. 5, tra. 3.75 inches. Identity positive They have been around for some time and had taken one of our chicks! Plumed Partridge 292d Oreortyx pictus plumiferus. 1894. July 24. Was somewhat surprised to find a flock on Box Spring Mt., near the summit house. They were in the chaparral, 10-12 ft. high. Perhaps 15 or mor and near a spring. Shot 3. Skinned 1. Feathers were common about the spring and a C. Bush-Mt's nest, built near was heavily lined with feathers of this quail. They seemed rather tame & evidently haven't haven't been hunted much. Measurements: No. 1. Skinned. J.ad (by plume). Leng. 11.75
