[Continued on p. 47]. 55 Cala. Bush Pit. Psaltriparus minimus californicus. 1891. Feb. 14 While down in the bottoms I heard a whistling noise & soon found a flock of about 20. Shot 2. Did not know Apr. 7 While on the hills near Box Springs Geo. & I found 3 sets. Set 1. nest placed 5 ft. up in a hare run- flower bush, in a small canyon near water. 5 eggs, fresh? & seen. Nest: fine grass + "fuzz" lined with soft feathers. Placed in small branches. Length: 7 in. egg fresh. Set 2. near set 1. but in another canyon. placed 6 1/2 ft. up in S. flower bush, similar to Set 1. No water near nest but not far off. Beggs. Incub. far advanced. Set 3. Same can. as Set 2. placed 5 1/2 ft. up in S. Fl. Coarser material than set 1. Size of nest: 9 inches. Egg incub. advanced & seen.
