BIRDS - NEW CALEDONIA L. Macmillian Page 18 March 15th, 1939 WEATHER: Ten and fifteen minute showers till late. Slowly clearing till 5 P.M. but always subject to sudden showers. Clouds 100% till 2 P.M. then 80 or 100%. Cloud carry, from NE. BIRDS: Went out shooting about two p.m. but birds were not at all active & rather silent. Noted considerably more movement when any bright patches occured. SK. NO. 33a NYMPHICUS. (Bad moult, shot damaged) Nymphicus cornutus cornutus: male 1/2 minus, white, (very small). SOFT PARTS: Iris: orange; Bill black horn & blue horn base; Legs & Feet. black SHOT: 3:00 P.M. WGHT. 130.3 gm. W: 165 TL: R. 171 1. 167 SKL: C.O. STM: 1/4 seed residue CROP: 1/1, large milky seed kernals, astringent, smelly, pungent odour. MOULT: W:R; 2,7 covs, sec, o. L; 2,7. covs, sec. O. TL: L.l. covs. m. Body: all uppers c exc. crown v.m. all unders m. excpt. neck, chin, o. SK. NO. 33B. PACHYCEPHALA. Pachycephala pectoralis caledonica: male imm. 1/4 minus, colorless. SOFT PARTS: Iris: reddish brown; Bill: black; Leg & Ft., smoky grey. SHOT: 3:30 P.M. WGHT: 24.6 gm. W. 82, TL. 69 SKL. .4 ossif. STM. 1/2 insects, rotting wood. MOULT: W: covs m.
