BIRDS - NEW CALEDONIA L. Macmillan Page 126 Odd showers during the night and morning of the 9th. set into continuous rain early on the ninth and made collecting impossible. This rain continued without a break till the early morning of the 12th. The camp was a washout in more ways than one. Food running out ropes were used to come down the slippery tracks to the coast. Later an attempt will be made to collect on the mountain. With better luck I hope. Inches of rain fell and the ground was completely saturated, even to rising through the ground forming the floor of the tent. The tent was left pitched for the return attempt.
