BIRDS - NEW CALEDONIA L. Macmillan PAGE 8 parasites. Iris-dark brown. Bill - upper mandible black; lower with black tip and edge and white horn base. Legs and feet - dark greyish flesh. Shot 10 A.M. Weight - 44 grams. Specimen very thin. No moul t; Very slight wear on wing, slight on left half tail, considerable on body (colour). Stomach full of river sand and water beetle larvae. Skull nine-tenths ossified. SKIN 12 HYPOTAENIDIA - σ Testes three-quarters enlarged, white, Iris - red. Bill - horn color with reddish base. Legs & Feet - beige. Shot - 11 A.M. Weight - 195.5 grams. No moul t. No abrasion on wing; fair amount on tail. Stomach half full of seeds, grubs and gravel. Skull three-fifths ossified (thick, opaque). SKIN 14 PACHYCEPHALA RUFIVENTRIS - σ Testes fully enlarged and white. Shot 7 A.M. Weight - 19.1 grams. Odd feathers moulting on back. Very slight wear on wing, slight on tail. Stomach half full of beetles. Skull completely ossified. SKIN 15 - PACHYCEPHALA RUFIVENTRIS - φ ovaries a little more than one-half enlarged. Shot 7 A.M. Weight - 19.95 grams. Odd feathers moulting on neck and chin. Fair amount of abrasion on wing and tail. Stomach three-fourths full of caterpillars, beetles and insects. Skull completely ossified.
