BIRDS - NEW CALEDONIA L. Macmillan Page 84 seen in one party and several other single ones were seen. Circus: Fully 20 of these must have been seen during the day. Erythrura: In places where this species has been very abundant none or only an odd one was seen today. Trichoglossus: Numbers of these were seen but all were extremely noisy and restless and would only settle for a moment then leave in a shrieking mob as another hawk passed over or was sighted. Falco: Three of this species never seen here before were seen during the day. Collocalia: Were all feeding high today. Halcyon: Was as numerous as usual but did not appear to be feeding and were very restless. Lelage: Not as common as usual and was restless. Megalurus: Very subdued and not calling as usual and very few seen or heard during the whole day. Aplonis: Entirely absent where it was common the previous day. All other species were either subdued or almost absent and even those which were about to a certain degree were shy and wary. Sk. No. 58. ZOSTEROPS later. Zosterops lat. gris. Male AD., 1/2 minus, yellowish white, Test. very small for AD. SHOT: 8:30 a.m. WGHT: 15.2 gms. SKL: C.O. STM: 1/1, blue berries, red chili peppers. MOULT: Nil ABR: W/T. nil Number of others shot all IMM. in several species.
