76 J. & Cornelison and Son. Bybectown, Ky. = Portland. Clay is obtained on road from Waco to Cobb Ferry, about 1/2 m'l E of junction of Waco- Cobb Ferry road with pike thru Waco to Divine. Thickness in an average 6 or about 5 ft. The clay rests the Black Shale. Clay is brought to slimp and glazed as jugged, using one horse and tub. Taken from jug to cellar; Jars 1qt 1/2, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 gal. jugs 1qt 1/2, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 gal. Churns 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, & gallons. Blaze with slip clay get from New York, delivered to crime from Florida mixed with red lead and man garase. They is all stirred together the clay being strained first + then the pottery is dipped + dried, and then vt's to the Kiler. Used as down draft kiln, fuel: coal, heat up slowly for about 24 hours; and raise to white heat in 24. Leavers great hole, + use a try piece, where the clay is good on this try piece and it clues. Curl 50 hours, Tilings, 4, 6, & inch. 77 D. Zittel + S m. East end of Waco, Set clay in George McMinnys place, about 2 mi. SE. + 6 ft if clay overlying the Black Shale. In same place 4-7 ft clay is found on sand, in there cases the clay is counseled with them their resting on Black Slate. Used largely for storing corn + stuffin' jars, Milk pans 1/2, 1, 2 gallons
