Holmes,R. 1959 Journal 24. 1 July . Barrow, Alaska The ice came back in This morning between 0700 and 0900, and now huge chunks, some up-tided can be seen jammed along the beach. A low fog persisted during the morning and again during the afternoon. At 1600, left Barrow and flew to Wainwright. Saw several flutter gulls (glaucous) all the way and some snow owls near Wainwright. Wainwright ; Alaska 1700-1930. Arrived and talked to the school teacher about The humming situation. Apparently a few had been stored, and nine were purchased. On walking out to the tundra, many runways and cut grass were evident. 7-8 Snowy Owls were seen between the village and the Deriline Site, and owls and jargon were reported by the natives as being fairly common.
