Holmes, R 1939 Journal) 18 June Barrow, Alaska continued the same. In many parts the area behind ARL the water is standing several inches deep and the wedge between the polygons are much deeper. Also in walking in snow, the bottom half of the snow is water. 19 June Barrow, Alaska 0930-1230, 1330-1730. Beach Ridge between line 1 markers and gasoline and then into the ARL through the drum area. Weather: clear and sunny, light southerly wind. The snow is melting rapidly and the water is several inches deep in the lowlands. A Ranunculus was noted today. 20 June Barrow, Alaska 0900-1200. Beach Ridge and walked back to ARL. The snow is melting quickly, so that now probably 70% of the tundra is exposed. Water is beginning to recede in the deep pools and low places although a great deal of the tundra is still flooded. 21 June Barrow, Alaska 0900-1200. Beach Ridge near gasoline and then to ARL. Went to lodge after lunch and then worked on [illegible]
