Holmena, R. 1961 Insect Sampling 12 jun Barrow, Alaska. Insect Sampling area established No. of Votis Area (see map with journal). Four sod samples were taken: 1 from polygon top, 1 from through, 1 from slope & 1 from drying ground near marsh edge. Pond samples were taken from 5 tundra & 5 lowland-marsh ponds. Sod Sample A (S-A) - high polygon top, dry, mostly covered with moss + scattering of sedge. Permafrost at 6". Sod Sample B (S-B) - in moist polygon through, 40' east of A. Wet, messy, sedge + grass area - permafrost at 5 cm Sod Sample C (S-C). Upper slope in "bumpy" ground. - Sod wet - contain sedge + grass - permafrost at 5 cm Sod Sample D (S-D). Near temporary + permanent pool - grasses, sedges, damp. permafrost at 5 cm. Pond Sample. A → E - in among polygons E → J - in flat, marshy, sedge flat areas) Samples taken on sour shore
