Insect Sampling 10 June Barrow, Alaska Several samples have been taken during the past few days, but only occasional larvae have been found. Today a plot was semi-established on The ridge - N. 1 VDTA's Area (No. 1 Trophonia [illegible] A+B). The ridge is grassy with slight polygons. Two m² plots were placed on polygons (Btc) + one in a trough (A). A soil sample was taken 2' away for A+ B. The results of exploring there: A: 1 - ½ sq' - 3 chironomids - 0.4/sqft or 376/sq.yd. B - All plots were watched for 10 min. 3 spiders were seen in plot A; nothing in the other two. This obs. method will only be good for fairly energetic & certain not limning activity.
