Holmes,R. 1957 Journal 15 june Barrow, Alaska are almost completely free of snow, and lemming sign is evident, although less than previously expected. The jaegers still seem to be "caring" The area as about a dozen were noted in and near the drum area. Clouquesulls were also noted. hunting in the drum area. 1000-1200. Britton's Area and gas well road and vicinity. The snow here too is melting rapidly, and with the weather as warm as it is today it will soon be gone. Very few sandpipers were seen today and the number of wandering jaegers seems to have decreased. There are, however several pairs who seem rather settled. 1330-1630. Drum Areas and tundra to the south. Jaegers are still evident in this area with many pairs setting on the mounds of exposed tundra. One was noted catching a lemming. The tundra is becoming very marshy and will soon be clear of snow. The weather today was mostly overcast, but the sun was seen once. A fog came in the late afternoon.
