21 Aug Barrow, Alaska
Rain began falling last night +
continued through the morning but
subdued by poor. Weather
Windy (16mph - SE) + cold -35-40°
Worked in my lab on pond samples
all morning. Went to plots + took
vacuum sample + brief observation
counts - even though everything
was soaked. In reference to their,
The amount (var our lost 2
weeks) is phenomenal - more
than '55 or '60. The tundra
is now saturated + there is
standing water everywhere. The
ponds at the creek plots are
a foot or two above sample #1
4/12 June. Many of them have
flared over onto the surrounding
flat lands so they are not
large expanses wet soggy tundra.
With the permafrost table being
down to 12-15" - + The tundra
saturated, travel is difficult -
see you work - Permafrost.
