Holmes, R. 1961 Journal 28 July Barron - Gell Lake to Barron, Blake nests - when had been used This year. A total 60-70 Ads (64 counted at 1 tim), were present as we left Thousand. They again spread themselves out, but not necessarily at the depressions where the nests had been. While on the island, the debris was picked up. It was difficult to determine how much of this was from last year since we don't know how old it is, so the account for this year may be poor, in attributing the bones to this year's food supply. The island measurements & # of old nests were taken last year. They appeared to be no new nests this year. Left Belolu at 1730. Saw 3 Snowy Owls just W. of the Shell cliff tower (208, 14). Arrived Barron at 1930. 2 Gray Whales seen between Point Lay & Cape Beaumont. 1 Ize Grizzly Bear seen standing on the beach between Cape Beaumont & Cape Sabine. Hobol just S. of No. Phalanx (507) & 20+ june Western Slope - were seen on Island.
