Holmes, R. 1961 Journal 45. 28 July Barrow, Alaska -> Ovil Lake, Alaska Processed insect samples until call came for trip to Ovil Lake at 1830. Dr. Eric Hultén, Sullivan, + I left with Zimmerman aboard the float plane & headed west. Sec. Arctic Red-Thr. Lons were seen between here + Sinclair. At Snavur - 14 Snowy Owls were seen. At Pearl Bay, we left for vicinity The coast + passed Warnwright about 6-8 mi So. of the site. At 1240, 1 Sn. owl was seen (E of Lir B) + Del was seen So. of Lir B. The weather had been foggy prior, but some part Ovil Lake Rivs., it cleared, Mavens, & A few scattered clouds. We arrived at Ovil Lake (See Note, from last year - days may fluctuate stop - in early May of this year). The Lake is Located at are (The Forks) of the Spenville River - where from Cape Libbourn. When we 1st arrived, about 58 geese were scattered over the island, spaced about 10 feet apart. The geese were large, with down hoods + partly feathered (not fully) swings. 27 geese were counted in the Surrounding waters (41 individuals were landed). On the island, there were 23 active
