Holmes,R 1961 23 July Barrow, Alaska Weather clear & sunny. 570FT - with a very slight westerly wind. During the afternoon, a few clouds came in but it cleared by late afternoon. Mosquitoes were abundant but selective, little other insect life was noted - no crane, flies + life around. The ponds were not exceptionally active. Birdlife: trip to Ookyak - 6 RB, 1 GP, 1 Longspur- No Phaе, or Pectorals. - 1 Parasitic Jaeger, 6 Gla Squaw. - Big Flock of Eiders- mostly Kings - were flying N. along the edge of Eiders. 24 July Barrow, Alaska Weather overcast during the morning with a wan southerly breeze. In the afternoon, a rain squall passed through preceded it was followed by a steady drizzle that lasted into the evening. In the afternoon, Pitelka & I went out to the Beach ridge + restaked his old BR plot. The mosquitoes were out in force + this in combination with the warm muggy rain made the afternoon rather uncomfortable. 1♂+2♀ chick RD were seen & collected - in the marsh, just no. 5 of the Oline 10m plot. A flock of LG Plover on the plot - no longspurs, no other birds seen.
