Holmes,R. 1964 Journal 40. 16 July Barrow, Alaska Drift samples were processed during the morning and then in the afternoon, vacuum + observation data was obtained at the insect plots. Weather was mostly overcast today with patches of low fog. 17 July Barrow → Cape Beaufort, Alaska Left lab at 0630. Left airport at 1030 with Hulker, Sullwan, + Fischer. Flew west to Cape Beaufort, hit a cloud bank, turned around and leveled back to Barrow after landing on a lake briefly to refuel. A pair of swans was seen S+W of Wainwright. 1 Parasitic jaeger was seen; no other jay seen in evidence. 1 Snow, one low violet near Shell cliff.-2 mi inland. A herd of 100+ caribou was seen about half way between Wainwright + light (Cape Beaufort). Arrived back at Barrow at 1500. Insect samples were picked during the afternoon + evening. Weather at Barrow - overcast + cool. 18 July Barrow, Alaska Finished Samples in the morning finished - data. In the afternoon, a special horizontal sample was taken at P and C - to see the amount of variation in one pond. Weather
